We know all too well how daunting it can be either trying a new gym or even going to the gym for the first time. A good way to feel more comfortable is by booking a gym induction. Having a instructor walk you around a gym can actually help your nerves in the long run, and will hopefully make you feel more confident when you're in the gym by yourself.

What To Expect at Your Gym Induction?

Your gym induction should be informative and leave you feeling ready and prepared for your workouts. Typically, your induction will be with a fitness instructor who works at the gym. They will give you the grand tour, providing you with useful information about the facilities and what the gym has to offer, they should also cover any health and safety issues to ensure you are safe in the gym.

Before they allow you to use any equipment you will have to fill out a questionnaire regarding your health, this is sometimes emailed to you prior to your induction or it can be done on the day. Once this is all complete most instructors will then take you through the different machines ensuring you know how they work and how to use them safety.

How to Conquer Your Gym Nerves?

Nerves are completely normal, especially if it's all new to you. There are a number of things you can do to help conquer these nerves:

  • Mindset - Start your experience with a positive mindset and remember everyone started off as a beginner.
  • Clothing - Either treat yourself to some new gym wear or wear something you feel confident in for your induction. There's nothing wrong with a baggy t-shirt and some leggings or shorts!
  • Food - Make sure you've eaten before your induction, as working out on an empty stomach is a quick way to start feeling lightheaded. You don't need to have a full meal before you go, as you can risk feeling sick, but having a piece of fruit or a biscuit bar is perfect.
  • Questions - Think of any questions you may need to ask so you come away from your session feeling confident to start the gym!
  • What To Wear at Your Gym Induction?

The best thing to wear to your induction is most likely what you would wear for a normal gym session. Dress for comfort, find activewear that makes you feel good and doesn't feel restrictive or tight in any way.

    Activewear features to look for:

  • Lightweight - if you decide to work out in heavy clothing (eg jeans, jumpers, fleece etc) this will restrict your movement. Wearing lightweight, stretch fabric ensures you can exercise feeling comfortable.

  • Flat Locked Seams - This is a technology that is used across our leggings. It means that any friction is massively reduced so there is no irritation along the seam lines.

  • Absorbent & Quick Drying - A important factor for activewear to ensure you can do a full workout without feeling too sweaty and uncomfortable. Our Q-Wic fabric technology has been imbedded in the majority of our activewear range and it helps to wick the sweat away from the skin to help avoid any irritation.

  • Reflective Details - This is key for those of you who are planning to add some outdoor activity into your gym routine. If you fancy doing some running, or even cycling to work a few times a week, then having reflective details makes you more visible to other road users and keeps you safer.
