Running is quickly becoming one of the most popular forms of exercise, making running leggings an essential in any activewear wardrobe.
Finding the right pair of running leggings can be a tough task. There are so many choices when it comes to style and price range, so how do you know which is the best pair of leggings for you? We created this guide to help talk you through everything you need to look out for when purchasing your next pair of running leggings.
What to Look For When Buying Running Leggings
Material
Most gym leggings are created using a mix of fabrics, mostly combination of polyester and elastane. These two in particular are used as polyester is a water-resistant and sweatproof material (which is an essential for activewear,) and elastane ensures that your leggings have enough stretch in them - there's nothing worse than a stiff pair of leggings that restrict your movements. The fabrics that we use across our activewear uses a fabric technology called Q-Wic, this technology offers quick drying properties and helps to wick away the sweat from the skin which in turn helps you feel cooler and more comfortable. Our Q-Wic+ fabric technology does everything Q-Wic does, but has the added benefits of including anti bacterial properties which helps to eliminate odour keeping you smelling fresher for longer.
Squat Proof
Squat proof is all about the thickness and the amount of stretch the fabric has. If a pair of leggings state that they're squat proof, it means the fabric won't be see through when stretched.
Length
You have two standard lengths, full length and 3/4s. Full length (as the name suggests) goes down to just below the ankle, they are the standard that you will see on the majority of models across different fitness websites. It is always worth checking how tall the model is to see how long the leggings would be on you. If you're under 5 foot 2 inches, it may be worth looking into petite lengths to make sure that they're not too long. 3/4s, also known as capris, finish around mid shin. They offer less coverage which could be a benefit if you're running in warmer temperatures.
Style
A black pair of running leggings are just essential in everyone's wardrobe as they go with everything, grey is another great alternative. If you're someone who likes to add a pop of colour to their activewear wardrobe then patterned leggings are a great choice. You also have the option to colour co-ordinate if you do decide to bring in some colours and designs.
Other Features to Look Out For
Other features you may want to look out for when shopping for your next pair of running leggings include how high waisted the leggings are, whether or not you have pockets, can there be any other causes of friction and what level of compression they offer.
You don't want to be constantly pulling up your leggings or re-adjusting them as you're out on your run, high waisted leggings can help to avoid that. And to avoid any rubbing, look for flat locked seams. This means the thread on the seams is flat against the material so it can't cause any rubbing or irritation.
When shopping for running leggings, make sure you're looking at leggings that have been purposefully made for movement. And don't forget to complete the rest of your running outfit with pieces from our
